What to Expect from Premera Individual and Family Plans in 2025
Our 2025 individual and family plans and rates have been filed with the Alaska Division of Insurance (DOI). Here’s a preview of what you can expect from Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska next year.
Plans
We’re renewing all our preferred metallic and standard plans available on healthcare.gov. There are no new or discontinued preferred metallic or standard plans in 2025.
Beginning in 2025, there’s a new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rule that limits health plans to two non-standard plans per metallic level. In response, we’re discontinuing the Alaska One Bronze plan. Your clients on our Alaska One Bronze plan will be mapped to the Alaska One Gold plan, per CMS mapping guidelines.
Benefits
The out-of-network deductible on all plans is increasing to three times the in-network deductible. This change puts us on par with other individual plans.
Network
Your clients will continue to have access to providers in the Legacy and Dental Select network for medical and dental services. Our network remains one of the largest networks in Alaska, with many behavioral health, alternative care, and specialty providers.
Rates
We’ve filed for a 16.3% rate increase. This will help cover the rise in anticipated healthcare and claims costs while ensuring your clients have access to the providers and benefits they need.
Rates aren’t final until approved by the DOI.
Commission
We’ll continue to pay $20 per member per month, a commission increase made in 2024.
Open Enrollment
Things move quickly once we file our plans. We’ll have 2025 resources available starting in late September. Open enrollment for 2025 starts on November 1.
