Premera Transitions to Electronic Explanation of Benefits in 2025

January 9, 2025

Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska is transitioning from mailed paper explanation of benefits (EOBs) to electronic EOBs to streamline access, enhance security, and support environmental sustainability.

Starting in March, members with an active premera.com account who aren’t opted in to electronic EOBs will be automatically enrolled in electronic EOBs.

Key details

  • Transition is expected to begin in March 2025 and will occur in waves based on group funding type
  • Members won’t experience any disruption to their premera.com account access or health plan services
  • Employers are encouraged to promote premera.com account creation and to sign in to confirm member contact information
  • Additional transition updates will be available in Producer News

Who can sign up for electronic EOBs?

  • Anyone included on the health plan who has created their own account on premera.com
    • Plan subscribers
    • Other adults on that plan
    • Dependents at least 13 years old (at least 18 years old in Alaska)
  • Members with children or other dependents on their plan who are over the age of 13 (18 in Alaska), won’t be able to see their claims information or electronic EOB.

Who can’t sign up?

  • Dependents 12 and under (17 and under in Alaska). Their EOBs can be viewed by the plan subscriber.
  • Members whose coverage has ended; they’ll receive any further EOBs by mail.

Members can revert to paper EOBs by signing in to their premera.com account
